tom and i were dubbed primary teachers (we teach the young kiddos at church) the second we got married and moved into the ward. first we taught CTR 6 (five and six year olds) for a year, and we were "promoted" to Valiant 10 (nine and ten year olds) these past six months. and...they just released us. a lot of people have asked us how we feel about it, and we are honestly a little sad. we really love those kids and we loved teaching them. it was fun to do it together as "team swapp." now we're not really sure what to do with ourselves - how the crap are we supposed to communicate with adults!? nervous.
we disappeared to vegas for the 4th (since we can ditch church now, naturally), and that was pretty fun. greg and darlene met us and we had a nice little weekend filled with too much heat and too much food. saw said pillow in person and did not like as much. very glad no investment was made. i also had a very crazy moment and almost convinced myself the cost of a gorgeous (i mean, gorgeous) purse was worth it. but, i remembered - "i am a swapp now. swapp's are sensible." and i did not purchase. don't worry - i've ordered myself a trophy for this momentous occasion. i also learned another valuable lesson in marriage - DO NOT drink a diet coke halfway through your journey if your hubby doesn't believe in making "unnecessary" pit stops. i think you can imagine how that went. darlene and i enjoyed a nice afternoon poolside - people watching was probably the best part (remind me to wear my five inch stilettos with my bikini next time i go. i was so mad that i forgot them). watching the fireworks was a bit unconventional. the 4th is by far my favorite holiday and my favorite thing is the sound of big old mama fireworks. this time, i got to listen to them from a car as we drove down the strip. stuck in traffic. heading to dinner (which was AMAZING). definitely an interesting night. it was so cool to watch them as they exploded off the tops of 4 or 5 hotels!

here is tom. enjoying the delicious nectar. no, not pepsi. just a pepsi cup.

i went in to buy some candy. i said, "hey tom. want me to get you anything?" "nah - i'm okay." and guess who i ended up having to share my m&ms with? another valuable lesson.
and this story has gotten too long. hope that makes you happy, lady!
love,
ash
